In Niseko, a charming village on Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido, the snow falls heavy in winter, the cherry trees blossom in spring, potatoes grow in the fields, and the forests resound with birdsong.
Yotei, conceived and designed right there in Niseko, brings the village to life, animating a personal perspective on the village’s real-life landscapes, residents and wildlife with its delightful artwork.
The game tasks you with crafting the enchanting Japanese village of your dreams. You’re competing with other players to claim the cards you need to grow your village – fields, forests, mountains, vending machines, shrines, fruit stands, fireworks festivals, they’re all there, but you’ll need to be the first to place your character tokens on the cards you really want.
Cards come with a cost – you’ll need to delve into your stock of potatoes to pay for them. Some let you make a blind bid by placing any number of potatoes in a little sealed box, but careful – other players can try to outbid you. Cards can also be flipped to gain an alternative reward, or to block another player – there are a lot of choices that go into building a village!
Every card you claim becomes part of your village, granting you new resources and letting you claim even better cards next round to make your village more and more beautiful. At the end, the player with the most charming town wins the game!
